Libra Transport (B.C.) Ltd. is a family-run flat-deck carrier that grew from one truck in St. Albert into a trusted name across Western Canada.
One truck, one driver, one dispatcher
The astrologers say that people born under the sign Libra are determined to succeed once they set a goal. Francis Kohlman was no believer in astrology — but the description fit him perfectly.
Francis had been driving trucks since the late 1940s, always as an owner-operator leased to another company. In 1976, he and his wife Ollie decided to strike out on their own. They formed Libra Transport with one truck — a 1976 Kenworth — one driver (Francis), and one dispatcher (Ollie, who kept her day job).
Libra started slowly and carefully, with Canadian Salt in Alberta as our very first customer. Bit by bit we grew, earning operating authorities and — more importantly — the confidence of our customers and operators. Despite the ups and downs of the economy, our growth has been steady ever since.

The road so far
1976 — Francis & Ollie Kohlman found Libra Transport (B.C.) Ltd. with a single Kenworth and their first customer, Canadian Salt.
Growing the authorities — Load by load, Libra earns its operating authorities and builds a reputation for reliability across Alberta and BC.
40+ years at the Port — Libra becomes a specialist in freight moving into and out of the Port of Vancouver and BC's Lower Mainland.
A million-mile fleet — A substantial number of Libra operators reach one million miles of accident-free service; many have been with the company 10+ years.
Today — An interprovincial contract carrier hauling flat-deck freight throughout Western Canada, still family-run, still focused on good operators and good equipment.
